This is a collection of stories which demonstrates the full range of Isaac Asimov's ability from adventure to romance and from suspense to humour. There is something here for everyone including the excellent "Nightfall" which still stands today as a gem of modern science fiction. In my opinion this collection is not quite as strong as the first volume but is equally deserving of a read.

Be aware that these are not the complete stories of Isaac Asimov (hence only 1 star; the stories themselves are 5 star). The Collins paperback edition, volume 1, has 25 stories; the Collins paperback edition, volume 2, has a further 23 stories. The Doubleday hardback edition, volume 1, has all the 48 stories in Collins editions vol 1 and 2; the Doubleday hardback edition, volume 2, has a further 40 stories, not found in either of the Collins volumes. So essentially Collins are short-chaning on the stories, they contain only about half (48 stories) of the complete set (88 stories). If you want the complete stories - all 88 of them - only buy the Doubleday versions.

This collection of stories firmly establishes Isaac Asimov as the greatest science fiction writer ever. He skillfully writes about a broad variety of themes with imagination, realism and characters that you can almost touch. This book also contains "The Last Question" which I feel is almost certainly his most profound story ever and just has to be read.
