My mum did this diet in the seventies and still raves about it to this day. I decided to give it a go (after much nagging from her about how big I was becoming) and I have to say I've been really impressed with the results. I lost a stone in two weeks, my skin has cleared up and I've found it easy to keep on going. In essence the diet is low carb but not nearly as extreme as Atkins. Lots of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, salad, fruit and vegetables. The first two weeks are very prescriptive when you can only eat the food on the diet menu although there's no portion control or having to weigh anything. After the first fortnight it becomes a lot less restrictive. If you want to lose weight but don't like going hungry I'd definitely recommend this book.
