The COMPLETE works of Ralph Waldo Emerson

All of the Essays, All of the Poems, All of the Letters! In one Great Collection!

Ralph Waldo Emerson's genius is celebrated on several counts. Firstly his essays have come to be revered for their astonishing perspicacity and insight, with certain essays in particular - such as "Self-Reliance" achieving near-legendary status. This huge anthology contains all of Emerson's essays, preserved in collections as they were originally published - including many rare essays that have been left out of out of other collections, such as "Papers from the Dial".

Despite the fame from his Essays and Lectures, Emerson preferred to be remembered as a poet. He was an incredibly prolific writer, composing dozens of poems in almost every decade of his life. This ebook contains a complete collection of all 219 of Emerson's poems, divided into 6 sections as they were originally published.

Emerson is also remembered as the leader of the Transcendentalist movement, and as a champion of Individualism (as detailed in "Self-Reliance"). His thoughts and philosophies are thoroughly detailed in his Essays, but the letters of his personal correspondence with the Scottish philosopher and essayist Thomas Carlyle provide a new insight into his complex thought process. This collection contains all 191 letters taken from their correspondence, which spanned a period of 38 years.

This huge and comprehensive collection has been carefully collected, formatted and edited, to create a crisp and clean text, free of errors or glitches. There is a fully interactive table of contents, with individual links to each essay, poem and letter in the collection, for a smooth and enjoyable reading experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-made collection of Emerson's main works. 7 July 2014
As a fan of Ralph Waldo Emerson's fine writings, I like to have a collection of his works handy. This Kindle edition reproduces the 1904 "complete" edition of Emerson's works, and is clean and well-designed. In addition to those volumes, it includes the two volumes of letters between Emerson and Thomas Carlyle. It would be perfect if it also had the journals - not the complete Harvard University Press edition, of course, because that's not easily accessible, but the 1909 edition, that was edited and annotated by his son Edward.

Nevertheless, this Kindle edition includes all of Emerson's major works, and it's handy to have this on a Kindle or iPhone, to read some of Emerson's profound thoughts from time to time. Can't beat that.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read 3 Sep 2014

I'm glad I bought this e-book. I did some research and looked at quite a few of the Emerson compilations, and it appears that there are quite a few that claim to be 'complete', but on inspection only contain "Essays" or "Poems", but almost never both (and often incomplete selections of essays!).

I'm happy to say that this is not the case with this ebook - it includes an exhaustive selection of essays, all arranged in the original collections they were published in - which even involves a couple of essays being duplicated if they appeared in two collections (that's what I call thorough).

It has all the poems - without the formatting errors that I've found to be prevalent in quite few other ebook collections, and also includes the correspondence with Thomas Carlyle - which I consider to be 'bonus material', as the publishers could have got away without including it and still called it "complete".

I've read most of Emerson's works already, so this is more for reference than anything else, and I can say that all in all I'm very pleased with this ebook.
5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible value 16 Sep 2014

As a writer I often review the works of cherished authors prior to sitting down to write. I am a huge fan of Ralph Waldo Emerson and have found great inspiration in his work. I wanted a complete digital version of his works, knowing I’d settle for a partial compilation if needed, and then I found this one. It has so much in it and accurately uses the descriptor “complete”. I particularly love the interactive table of contents which allows me to access with ease any of the items I wish to review. This is perfect and many ebooks don’t have it. I’d never had opportunity to read the letters between Emerson and T. Carlyle and that fact that this compilation includes them was also a big selling point for me. The price for this handy, easy-access volume in digital format is, in my opinion, an incredible bargain.
