Note Well; - For some unfathomable reason, Amazon continues to show the same reviews for both of these boxed sets (only one of which is the revised second edition), as though they were the same books. - They are not!
REVISED SECOND EDITION BOX SET (Wainwright/Jesty)
All the benefits of the original Wainwrights with the addition of more up-to-date footpath info.
READER'S EDITION BOX SET (Original Wainwrights)
The original classic Wainwrights, presented more sumptuously.
For different reasons, both boxed sets are highly recommended to anyone venturing onto the Lakeland fells, and to every Wainwright aficionado.
One quibble relating to both of these box sets. - Why oh why do the publishers insist on making the box so damned small that you almost need a shoe horn to get the books into or out of it?
This is a major defect in an otherwise perfect presentation of these books.
Getting individual books out of the box requires significant pulling by the fingernails at the top edge, which must, inevitably, at some point, damage the spine of the books.
The publishers/manufacturers should seriously consider taking a leaf out of the book (pun intended) of Cicerone Press, with their equally excellent Lake District FELLRANGER box set. - The box on that set gives adequate extra dimension (in truth, nothing more than a couple of millimetres) so that the books can easily be removed and replaced.
