Generally, I dislike box sets and 'career overview' albums. All too often, they distract from the substance that makes a 'stand-alone' studio album more of a captured moment in time than any 'best of' ever could. Besides, box sets are usually compiled with a mixture of things you'll have already, and things you wouldn't ordinarily bother with.
However, this is the first box set I've ever known that can truly stand alongside the artists' 'proper' albums and not be a replication of anything previously released. It's a completely self contained chapter in musical history. If the recent '50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong' was the ideal bite-sized starting point for the discerning beginner, then The Peel Sessions Box Set is it's companion piece, for long standing Fall fans and younger listeners alike. I'll probably never buy a box set again, but this is THE one worth having!
