Product Description

Contents: DISC 1 - SWORD OF VENGEANCE (1972, Kenji MISUMI) 84 minutes DISC 2 - BABY CART AT THE RIVER STYX (1972, Kenji MISUMI) 82 minutes DISC 3 - BABY CART TO HADES (1972, Kenji MISUMI) 89 minutes DISC 4 - BABY CART IN PERIL (1972, Buichi SAITO) 81 minutes DISC 5 - BABY CART IN THE LAND OF DEMONS (1973, Kenji MISUMI) 90 minutes DISC 6 - WHITE HEAVEN IN HELL (1974, Yoshiyuki KURODA) 84 minutes DISC 7 - SHOGUN ASSASSIN (1980, Robert Houston) 86 minutes At last... the riveting, bloody, and ultra-stylish Lone Wolf and Cub series, together with the classic Shogun Assassin (all based on the perennially popular manga by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima) available together in one boxset, officially licenced from Toho, fully uncut, and freshly remastered. Filled with memorable set pieces, iconic characters and violent action, this series more than lives up to its reputation as a pinnacle of Japanese exploitation cinema whose musings on the meaning of honour in a lawless world still resonate today. In White Heaven In Hell alone, Ogami Itt kills 150 people onscreen, the highest body count for a single character in a single film in cinema history. In America, the first two Lone Wolf instalments were re-edited into the legendary Shogun Assassin, the film that single-handedly created legions of new fans of Japanese action cinema upon its release. Originally prosecuted as a video nasty in the 1980s, this hugely influential thrill-ride is presented here along with the original Lone Wolf and Cub series, gorgeously remastered in their original aspect ratio. SPECIAL FEATURES: Freshly remastered, anamorphic, original aspect ratio transfers Newly translated optional English subtitles Original Japanese theatrical trailers for each film Liner notes for each film by Japanese film scholar Tom Mes (midnighteye.com)

THIS is the Lone Wolf and Cub boxed set to buy.

High quality dvd collection, beautiful colours, simply superb!

It includes Shogun Assassin as well, as a bonus!

Get this one...this boxed set is the definitive one to get...don't cheap out on cheaper box sets, as you may be dissapointed by picture transfer quality.

Picture quality is very good on this boxset. The best yet, I've heard.

Finally someone took the initiative to remaster, what is in my humble opinion, the finest Samurai movies ever!
If your into, gore, blood splatter, swords and nudity, all delivered with intelligence and artistic flare; you'll love this.
I've waited years for this to be remastered so I can actually see what's going on instead of just black everywhere.
Well worth the money too as the box-set is beautiful and comes with the 80's yankee edited version of the first two films, re-titled 'Shogun Assassin'. Which was heavily sampled by Wu-Tang's main producers, the RZA's debut album, 'Liquid Swords'.

I got lucky I guess 6 Aug 2011
By Volvi
I got lucky I guess because I had this item sitting in my basket for a long time, over a year at least but wasnt tempted for the price, thats until a few weeks ago. I couldnt believe the amended price update so I grabbed it at a third of the above. Now onto the movies. This stuff is good and for 1972's even better. I only mention that due to my scathing review of Female Prisoner Scorpion Trilogy [DVD] seems readers did not like what I had to say about it. However this set of Lone Wolf & Cub is great. I dont know what one reviewer complained about the re-mastered picture quality, seems pretty good to me for an old '72.

So suggest you do the same as I did, keep it in your basket 'till your happy with the price.

If you found any of my words helpful to you please vote on it. Thanks.

Remaster flawed. Give it 2 1/2 stars.
I'm not going to get into reviewing LW&C as story, the series is fantastic. But the touted digital remaster is disappointing. Read more
