The subtitle of this book suggests that it is aimed at administrative and office environments, and to give the authors their due, they do focus on that - however, it's within a manufacturing environment where the admin and office functions are to do with sales and order processing and engineering design.
If this is the environment you work in (i.e. office activities related to manufacturing), then this book will be very useful in helping you to apply value stream mapping.
However, if - like me - you work in a service environment such as education, social services, etc. you will find that the book falls short. For example it mentions the use of takt time, but this is generally not a useful concept in service environments.
In conclusion - if you want to know how to apply value stream mapping in the administrative side of a manufacturing environment, this book will help. The worked examples are clear and well explained. However if you want to know how value stream mapping can be applied within a generic service environment, this book will help you understand the concepts of value stream mapping, but will leave you with many unanswered questions about how to apply it practically.
