Book Description

The Complete Guide to Fishing Skills is the UK's bestselling fishing book. The new, revised edition includes an extended section on carp, appealing to youngsters and newcomers. Clear, explanatory illustrations and text on every page.

About the Author

Tony Whieldon has been fishing since boyhood. He grew up in an area of trout streams and country estate lakes, so it is hardly surprising that he was bitten by the fishing bug so early. His favourite pursuits include fly fishing for trout, float fishing for roach and tench and trying to outwit grey mullet. Over the years, he has produced a wealth of illustrations for fishing magazines and books as well as privately commissioned paintings.

what a nice and easy way to learn about Angling, no heavy product advertising, just plain and simple tuition.

Seems that few of these reviewers, if any, have tried to learn to fish from this book - they either bought it for others or have already started angling. I found it incredibly irritating to be faced in the first couple of pages with terms like coarse, float, and leger fishing, with absolutely no explanation of what they mean. There's almost nothing about how to get started. Whieldon suggests we learn to fish from a club, and learn about tackle from a shop. In that case, what do we need you for mate?

In short, it's not for absolute beginners. The non-information is beautifully presented, though.

I purchased this book two days ago to use with a group of 14yrs-17yrs to learn fishing. It is well presented and a brilliant book to inspire and inform young people who do not want to read. The text is pleasantly styled as a handwriiten journal and the illustrations in b&w are of a high standard, clear and user-friendly. Well done to Tony Whieldon, author. All my group need now are the rods....

this gets 5 stars plain and simple. ''why?'' you ask well here we go...

pretty much EVERY angling book you pick up is just a species identification guide, it will give you a few basic knots and a bit maybe about the history of the angler who wrote the book, his best catches blah blah blah... not really much relevant if you're new to fishing, or anything of value really.

this book is different, it gives you terminology you you can sound like you know what you're on about (and you will know after reading this book) it gives you good diagrams on how to cast multiple ways, it gives tactics for fishing different types of places - coarse and sea with different techniques, along with how, why and when you should use them. It gives easy to follow pictures for rig tying, tackle use, how to unhook a fish... and so on and so on.

I picked this book up for under £3.50 posted. you should too!

This is a great book for anglers of all experience levels and does exactly what the title says on the cover. The book covers the basics and goes up to advanced levels of angling. The book is well illustrated and the techniques are well explained in down to earth language. This book is ideal for anyone interested in angling no matter what your level of experience, as it is extremely comprehensive. This is a bargain that no self respecting angler should be without.
