For many people, health anxiety or hypochondria is a seriously debilitating mental disorder. It is very difficult to treat pharmacologically, but cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has had much success. This book contains an extensive and authoritative section on health anxiety. It follows the process used by health professionals and recommended by NICE to help sufferers. In my opinion, this is the best self-help reading available on the subject. Most books on CBT and anxiety disorder barely scratch the surface of health worries linked to depression. Indeed, one of the best guides to generalised anxiety has just three short paragraphs on hypochondria. And many GPs fail to understand it, or even worse - fail to treat sufferers seriously. If you have a problem with health anxiety, or are close to someone who does, buy this book. It will help you considerably and reinforce professional psychological therapy.

This is a great CBT reference book for any IAPT worker. Each chapter clearly outlines the characteristics of eack of the specific anxiety disorders. This is then followed by a step by step approach in tackling the disorder head on. The book is easy to read, and leaves out all the technical jargon associated with many of the current CBT books that I have read. This book would definately be a very useful term for both professional and non professional individuals with an interest in CBT or psychology.
