Book Description

From its origins during World War II to its modern role as the world's premier anti-terrorist unit, Britain's Special Air Service has been home to the most highly trained and deadly soldiers ever to do battle. This encyclopedia aims to penetrate the legend to provide a reference to every aspect of the history of the British Army's elite fighting force, and that of its brothers-in-arms in the Australian, New Zealand and Rhodesian SAS. This easily accessible A-Z offers over 1000 entries, each cross-referenced, covering operations, personnel, specialized weaponry and equipment. Not only useful as a historical record of the world's most famous special force, this book also aims to stand as a tribute to all members of the SAS, past and present, for their outstanding bravery while remaining true to an ideology that forms the backbone of the Regiment - Who Dares Wins.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant collection of information 1 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book was an amazing read! I am 14 years old and I have read a lot of military books like those written by Andy McNab, Chris Ryan and Steve Collins and I am a great fan. 'The complete Encyclopedia of the SAS' however has been more of a reference guide to me but a very good one at that! The book contains everything anyone would like to know about the worlds most elite counter-terrorism unit like what they wear, different jobs and operational squads, it also goes into great detail about the weapons that they use. There are plenty of brilliant pictures in the book which illustrate the text descriptions perfectly. The language is straight forward and easy to understand using the occasional sas jargon which is also explained. Before reading this book I thought I was fairly knowledgable of the regiment, now I know I am! I would recommend this book to anybody interested in anything military!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars All you ever wanted to know about the SAS 1 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
It's everything you always wanted to know about the SAS, but weren't able to find. The encyclopedia is very well laid out, with information ranging from weaponry to missions and from the Rhodesian SAS to the Australian SAS. The only drawbacks are: The factsheets on the various pieces of equipment contain not much info and a lot of the pictures I already knew from "SAS the illustrated history". Conclusion: Let's have more of those books
