I would not recommend this book for someone with very little knowledge of the country side. As stated in a previous review the photographs of birds has been misprinted. Picture number 20 is shown twice as two different birds. Instead of showing 20 as a Jackdaw and 21 a Sparrowhawk. To solve this go to the last photo 34 Turnstone, numbered 36 in the text and work back to the first photograph, the pics and text will then tally. Also in my opinion the author should have carried out more research on fishing before writing about the subject as that part of the book is inaccurate and vague.

This seems like a great book - I've bought it for my husband for Christmas so we've not used it yet but it includes so many things that it's hard not to have something for everyone.

Excellent Book! Full of many useful skills and arts, many of which you don't see a lot these days (prob depending on location somewhat). The book contains many fun and economically sound tricks, tradional methods of utilising and enjoying nature and useful knowledge for self-sufficiency. Would recommend this to anyone!

I bought this for my friend as a birthday present as she is such a big fan of Alan Titchmarch. Needless to say she loved it, even more so as this particular copy was signed by him! Lots of information, as the product description suggests, with nice pictures. For the right person, this is a great book. Recommended.
