Philip lives in the North-East of England with his partner and three children.
After stints as a security guard, factory hand, law student, kibbutz volunteer, motorbike despatch rider, civil servant, building site labourer, press cutter...the list goes on...he fell into journalism and now somehow earns a living writing fishing books and ridiculous headlines about dogs that surf.
He was a columnist for The Angling Times, which provided the basis of The Complete Bad Angler, and prepares tea each evening for three ungrateful offspring, which provided the basis of Cooking for Dads.
Philip has also published an updated version of TE Pritt's 1885 classic, Yorkshire Trout Flies, and is the author of Year of the Spider, in which Pritt's flies are put to the test on a North-East river over the course of a summer. In late 2013, he published a short e-book called The Damp Hackle, which is a collection of new writing along with a few extracts from his earlier books.
The dog that surfed? Hawaii Fid-O, of course...
