I had forgotten that, way back in the past, the BBC's pop output consisted of so many live performances. These tracks from the sixties show Dusty at her very best, both rocking and soulful at the same time. Some songs are not be found on any of her studio albums, others are well known to us, but what this album has is energy, passion and huge musical ability from one of the most iconic voices of the twentieth century.

You need to own this collection. Boy can she sing!!

When you have collected Dusty's records since the days of The Springfields it's always great to have something different.

This new release has some previously unreleased Springfields tracks and Dusty solo tracks that until now the solo tracks were only available on a cd released exclusivley through The Dusty Springfield Bulletin.

Hearing songs that Dusty never recorded but performed either on tv, radio or onstage is a real joy and here we have the fantastic Jackie Wilson hit (Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher And Higher plus The Bee Gees wonderful To Love Somebody that she DID record but was lost when a fire or flood swept through the Atlantic vaults. Stevie Wonder's Uptight is also

here along with Live versions of some of Dusty's huge hits, Losing You, Little By Little, In The Middle Of Nowhere and her number one You Don't Have To Say You Love Me.

If you are a recent convert to Dusty's music then this is sheer nectar as Dusty Live was something to behold, the companion DVD to this cd is due around August, GET IT!!!!!!

The sound archives of the BBC have given up some real treasures in the past few years: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Cream, to name a few.

Like this set, each BBC release contains mostly familiar material, some undiscovered gems and some filler. However, they're still excellent documents and usually a good listen to boot.

This collection is no different. The first three tracks with The Sringfields had me reaching for the skip button, but things improve from there. The last track is the best, a storming version of (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher.

There are other unreleased gems, such as Uptight and To Love Somebody, and fresh versions of hits. The rarest Dusty track - her duet with Jimi Hendrix on Mockingbird - isn't here, unfortunately.

The sound is good, without the thin strings and trebly tone of some offcial releases. The instrumental backing is OK, although Son of a Preacher Man suffers from some stilted lead guitar; still, the take makes up for that with a great vocal.

Worth buying if you're a Dusty, Sixties or good music fan.

Back in the early days of radio there was very little to entertain the youth of the day. There was, however, a handful of pop programmes such as 'Easy Beat'/'Top Gear' and 'Saturday Club' and the norm' for the act/artist would be for them to turn up a few days in advance and record their songs live.

As a result, all of the tracks on 'Dusty, The Complete BBC Sessions' have a fabulous raw and electric sound. When these tracks blast through our modern day stereo speakers you could be forgiven for thinking that she is almost standing right next to you.

Found on this CD is a handful of songs by Dusty that you won't find on any of her other albums : 'Tossin' and Turnin'/'Uptight (Everything's Alright')/'We're Doing Fine'/'Good Lovin'/'To Love Somebody' and ('Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher And Higher' - in my case, money well spent for these tracks alone.

Add to the mixture three songs from The Springfields era ('Swahili Papa'/'Dear John' and 'Say I Won't Be There'), four of Dusty's early album tracks - five if you include two different versions of 'I Can't Hear You (No More)' - seven of her hits: 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself'/'Losing You'/'In The Middle Of Nowhere'/'Little By Little'/'Wishin' And Hopin' (U.S Hit)/ 'Son Of A Preacher Man' and 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' (along with it's B-side 'Every Ounce Of Strength'). In total, twenty two amazing tracks you quite simply would not want to be without if you love Dusty Springfield's voice and music.

It's really great to hear something new from Dusty, particularly from her golden period in the 60s. These BBC sessions find her at the peak of her powers. She sounds like she's having a good time on these shows.
