Biography

The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. The group popularized the genre as well, by appearing on the British chart show Top of the Pops and hitting number one in the U.K. with the 1992 album U.F.Orb. Product Description

CD Description

Fantastic 2CD retrospective from the Kings of Ambient. Digitally remastered BBC In Session tracks hand picked by Alex Patterson with sleeve notes containing Alex’s recollections of his time in the BBC’s studios. Featuring alternate versions of four chart singles and the Peel Session recording of the massive underground hit "A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From the Centre of the Ultraworld". This track is the most requested Peel Session track of all time and was number 10 in Peel’s own Festive 50 Chart. This album contains some rarities including a full blown rock out version of "No Fun" by The Stooges.

Great 22 Sep 2008
Format:Audio CD
Not another Orb album I hear you cry, but wait. This one is actually quite good. It is a compilation of the live BBC sessions they did between 89 and 01 and is probably more of a companion to "Evil Orb" than any studio album.

The Orb were always an inventive live act, mixing up samples and bass lines, and some of the tracks here are so different as to be better than the album versions. That is just my opinion though.

Hilights are the liner notes by Kirs Needs, the cover of the Stooges "No Fun" and a great "Towers of dub".

Hey, I wasn't expecting much, since I already own many tracks and albums by The Orb, but this collection of sessions at the BBC are definitely worth it. Excellent versions, unheard covers and beautful artwork. Collectors and long-time-fans will also love the account of the experience written inside.
