5.0 out of 5 stars Just fabulous 11 Dec 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I first read these stories as a child myself and got utterly lost in the world of Anne - her life, her ups and downs, her dreams and hopes. I'm still as in love with her as I was then and have re-read the books many, many times. In the world in which we live, these books remain decent, clean entertainment - pure escapism. I defy anyone not to be gripped by Anne's adventures and get lost in her world. I still laugh and cry throughout and used to spend ages at the end of these books wondering what happened next and what Anne might be doing right now. I was desperate to meet her and be her friend. I can't wait till my daughter is old enough for me to give her her very own boxed set that I hope she will cherish as much as I have mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and sweet again. 10 Aug 2007
By Lily
Format:Mass Market Paperback
She's eleven years old. She's an orphan. She has imagination. She has red hair and frekles. She's Anne ( with an E.)
Anne Shirley goes to live with Marilla and Matheww cuthbert in the delightful home of green gables. She makes friends with Dianna Barry and she attends school.
All these books carry on her delightful life story, to school teacher, to college girl, to BA, to wife, to mother.
So sweet and a wonderful old classic every girl aged 10 - 100 should read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The World of Anne 30 Jan 2010
A Kid's Review
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I was on a beach holiday with my cousin when I discovered these books. I desperately needed reading material - I had finished the book I was reading and, bookaholic as I am, I didn't like facing three long weeks lying on a beach with nothing to read at all. I went into the hotel libraryand had a browse around. There was a lot of old books: "Cricket Through the Ages" and "The Art of Horse Racing", not my sort of books! I like a piece of good, rivetting fiction. After a lot of looking, I found a set of old and battered copies of the Anne of Green Gables series, deciding to give them I try. I didn't expect anything brilliant but oh how I was wrong. That day on the beach I spent my whole time absorbed in the world of Anne, absolutely delighted at the rich use of language and beautiful characters and story line. I adored Anne, with her red hair and amusing character. I read and read until my eyes ached. It was wonderful!
I finished Anne of Green Gables and then went on o Anne of Avonlea which was equally good. Then I went on to Anne of the Island and so on until I had finished the entire series. The are fantastic books that I could and will read over and over again and I think everyone should read them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boxed set of Anne of GG books 2 July 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Received order quickly & feel really 'grown up' to own a whole, complete set of books by any one author. The quality is not bad for the price. The fact that set is complete and boxed is pleasing and it looks pretty good. Anyway, have just finished the 8th book, and the books and stories get better, the further on in time that you go. I still loved the very first Anne book but the 6th, 7th & 8th are good too. This time round, I actually read all the descriptive passages about the landscape & this added to the pleasure & sense of geography. Have found the whole reading experience therapeutic - have laughed out loud many a time - & cried a bit too. If you want to give yourself a nice present as a reward, this could well be it. (As good as a new handbag!)
