I was on a beach holiday with my cousin when I discovered these books. I desperately needed reading material - I had finished the book I was reading and, bookaholic as I am, I didn't like facing three long weeks lying on a beach with nothing to read at all. I went into the hotel libraryand had a browse around. There was a lot of old books: "Cricket Through the Ages" and "The Art of Horse Racing", not my sort of books! I like a piece of good, rivetting fiction. After a lot of looking, I found a set of old and battered copies of the Anne of Green Gables series, deciding to give them I try. I didn't expect anything brilliant but oh how I was wrong. That day on the beach I spent my whole time absorbed in the world of Anne, absolutely delighted at the rich use of language and beautiful characters and story line. I adored Anne, with her red hair and amusing character. I read and read until my eyes ached. It was wonderful!
I finished Anne of Green Gables and then went on o Anne of Avonlea which was equally good. Then I went on to Anne of the Island and so on until I had finished the entire series. The are fantastic books that I could and will read over and over again and I think everyone should read them.
