Format:Audio CD
What more could you ask for? All of the original Byrds albums in one neat box with bonus material (some of it enlightening to say the least) and a great little book and all for the BARGAIN price of £25-30!
But that's not all: these CD's contain the 1996-2000 remasterings done by none other than Vic Anesini (the man who has tranformed Elvis' back-catalogue using the DSD process over the past decade). In other words, there is no audible noise reduction, clipping, compression or other madness associated with the modern day obsession with loudness. I'm so pleased that they left these alone. The 1996-2000 versions are definitive and sound superb, even knocking the original vinyl off its perch!
Each album is contained in a simple card sleeve with a (admittedly low budget) facsimile of the original albums front and rear cover artwork printed on it. These are definitely not in the same league as The Beatles mini LP sleeves in the Mono box but remember this set also contains ALL the originally released music (apart from the poor 're-union' album cut for Asylum Records in 1973) in great sound at approximately one tenth of the price! So you won't hear much bitching from me.
This is one of the best runs of music ever made and certainly is a cornerstone of the late Sixties West Coast movement. Every collection should have this album set in it. If you already own every album from the late Nineties re-issues, you do not need this set as there is nothing new inside it. However, for everyone else this set is necessary as it contains all the contents of those individual releases including the bonus content which throws a light on the various arguments that members of the group had at different times resulting in the walk-outs and splits that would subsequently give rise to yet another new line-up and totally new sound.
Every album is different to every other and within this set you get their early folk-rock masterpieces, developing into the more psychedelic and space rock orientated experiments, then gradually moving into country-rock and more mainstream fair before returning once again to a more simplified roots-based approach.
As each disc effectively contains the contents of what was previously made available on releases like "Never Before", this set therefore almost renders all previous archive albums obsolete. It doesn't however contain any pre-Tambourine Man material but that is of much lesser quality anyway and is still available today on albums like "In The Beginning".
It is also worth mentioning that the last album contained within this set, "Farther Along", has been out of print for many years and some online retailers (check Amazon's Marketplace for starters) are charging almost as much for that one single album as you can get it for here with EVERY other album included!!!
In other words, this is a no-brainer purchase so go and buy it now and enjoy!

Well, here it is. A scrumptious, definitive collection of The Byrds recordings, with Columbia. And what can one say? 120 tracks or so, of Byrd music. It should please even the most diehard Byrd fan, starting with the glorious Mr. Tambourine Man, followed by their 10 other albums, Turn, Turn, Turn. Fifth Dimension, Younger than yesterday, The Notorious Byrd Brothers, Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde, Teh Ballad of Easy Rider, Untitled/(Unissued), Byrdmaniax and Farther Along.
This is a must have for the Byrds fan. There is a very good booklet with all of this, with detailed information of every track. Yeah I had them all before but sparsely: a badly pressed French vinyl of TTT, same of Spanish vinyl of 5D, single Rodeo and Untitled, bonus tracks and liner notes-less Dr.Byrds and Easy Rider CDs... This is just everything except Reunion and I would have payed the same even without Byrdmaniax and Farther Along. Look, Beatles boxes do cost 4-5 times more (yeah I had them all too and still I bought both versions).
