Product Description

The true story of a marriage (not really), a lovable and relentless mother, a six-year old who says his parents cannot get married (but wants to go to the reception), a partner who doesn¬'t want to act like a straight person, and the author, who has written a hilarious and poignant memoir about making ¬"The Commitment.¬" There is no hotter issue than gay marriage in the culture-war debate, and Dan Savage, one of America¬'s most outspoken and beloved columnists, takes it on and makes it personal in this rollicking memoir of coming to terms with the very public act of marriage. What he discovers will make readers¬-gay or straight, right or left, single or married¬-howl with laughter as well as rethink their notions of marriage and all that it entails. Praise for Dan Savage¬'s Skipping Towards Gomorrah: ¬"Takes readers on a journey that¬'s as insightful as it is hilarious.¬" ¬-Entertainment Weekly ¬"Laugh-out-loud funny.¬" ¬-The Seattle Times -Savage¬'s ¬"Savage Love¬" column runs in more than seventy newspapers in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. -Like the best political comedians, Dan Savage is a frank and honest storyteller whose comedy is funny but always insightful and necessary. -Dan has appeared on The Al Franken Show on Air America, Paula Zahn Now on CNN, 20/20, MSNBC, and VH1.

By Benjamin J. Whitehouse VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover
Savage deftly juggles being a newspaper editor, loving father and partner, and a dignified gay man in today's America, all while writing one of the most salacious weekly advice columns in print today.

The book deals with true story of a marriage, a lovable and relentless mother (she gives the strongest defence of marriage and she's a divorced Catholic), a six-year old who says his parents cannot get married ("eeeewww... that's gross!" but wants to go to the reception), a partner who doesn't want to act like a straight person, and the author.

What he discovers and explores will make readers-- gay or straight, right or left, single or married-- laugh as well as think. Well worth reading!

I'm admittedly not much of a book reader, but having knowledge of Dan Savage through his It Gets Better campaign - and learning more about him, led me to buy this book. I love it. For me, a 24 year old gay guy living in London and in a long term relationship, it was a great read and it provided me with an insight in to the kinds of things to think about when you consider the future and the idea of marriage and building a family.

Dan Savage is candid and humorous throughout the book, and you get to learn so much about not only him, his partner Terry, his son DJ - but also his wider family, and you get a good feeling for how Dan fits in within his family dynamic.

I'd recommend it to all gay guys who are the type of men who are pro-relationship and commitment.

This is an excellent book - not only as a story of commitment but also as a study of an extended family. The humour is great and the ending is inspirational.

Most enjoyable book I've read in a while. Addresses issues that we will all encounter at some point in our lives unless you spend your entire life living under a rock. Recommend to anyone, Gay, Straight or Inbetween.
