In his live one man shows Nick Pynn creates musical pictures and soundscapes of delicate shimmering beauty, doing so before your eyes and ears in a deceptively effortless way. Superbly played guitar, fiddle or any one of a dozen other instruments are recorded, looped and interwoven into a complex tapestry of melody, harmony and counterpoint. Here he is joined in these creative efforts by a variety of fellow musicians who are fully up to the task, albeit contributing to the recording one at a time, adding depth and colour to the sound. Pynn's compositional gifts are very much in evidence and explore some new and ambitious areas, and his ear for melody is also well demonstrated in tracks such as 'Where North Falls' and 'Michigan Sleeping'. On top of that there is a welcome guest appearance by the wonderful Jane Bom-Bane on 'The Fishes Lament'. An enchanting album which invites and repays repeated listening.
