If you like British and American crime thrillers then you'll like this too. While violent it is not blood and guts but something much colder, and more cynical. If you think British and American writers are sometimes cynical about their police then it's nothing compared to this, and some other Italian writers have the same love for the forces of the Italian state. There is a moral heart to this book but it is shadowed by the despair of the characters for themselves, for their country, for the world.

A macho tale of corrupt officials and connected tough guys - I struggled with the implausibilities of Italian manhood and pitied the women portrayed - not really my style, in future I'll stick to Jean Claude IZZO.
