I'm not going to review the five Simon and Garfunkel albums that comprise the core of this set. They all good-to-great, and if you're looking at this set, you probably already know that. The versions that come in this box are the most recent remasters, each with a couple of bonus tracks. They sound fine. The sixth disc, a PAL format, region 0 (plays in any country) DVD of their 1980 Concert for Central Park, is a nice addition, although I have always considered the versions performed during this concert to be too laid back and informed by Paul's interest in jazzier sounds at that time.
In any event, this would be a good deal even without the Concert for Central Park. Consider the concert a free bonus.
As for the packaging: You get a nice custom slip case and all six discs in mini-sleeves (with generic inner sleeves to protect the discs). Be aware that these are low quality mini LP reproductions that appear to have been created from scans of the larger artwork, not from original elements. In other words, these are NOT up to the quality of the Japanese "mini LP" jackets that some of you may be familiar with. They ARE pretty much identical in quality to the mini LP sleeves that appear in the Sony/Columbia/Epic/BMG series of "Original Album Classics" 5 album boxes.
In addition to the mini LP sleeves, you get a cursory book with a few pictures and credits. If there is one real Achilles heal here, it's that. They really should have, at minimum, reproduced the liner notes for the individual albums.
Overall, though, in terms of music and value, this box is a full five stars. The packaging (cheap quality of the repro sleeves and lack of liner notes) dock it one star.
