Finally somebody decided to release this set of classic british soul and funk on cd. Central Line originally released two albums and a handful of singles between 1979 - 1984 after which they disbanded. They were part of the Brit Funk scene which of course also comprised the likes of Light of the World, Incognito, Beggar & Co., Shakatak and even Level 42. Their two albums 'Breaking Point' (1981) and 'Choice' (1984) are included here less a couple of tracks. Their greatest hit 'Walking into sunshine' is also included in original + Larry Levan mix. You will find some bass heavy grooves, some excellent drumming from Simple Minds drummer to be Mel Gaynor, as well as good melodic song material by Linton Beckles and Camelle Hinds, who later went on to form Hindsight with partner Henri Defoe (also in Central Line). Highlights for me in this timeless collection which doesn't appear outdated in any way are: I Need Your Love (classic Brit Funk - check out the bass), Breaking Point (jazz-funk), Walking into Sunshine (a classic), Surprise Surprise (should have been a cross-over hit) and Shake it Up! (funky!)
Check it out if you want to (re)discover a soulful, funky, British band which should have had a greater audience than they had at that time.
