I'll begin this review by saying I'm not normally one for short-story anthologies. I don't know why, but the short-story approach just doesn't work for me as a reader. Nine times out of ten I'll come away feeling disattisfied with an anthology, no matter who the author is. On my very short list of authors who are successful at the short story format are Christopher Fowler and Robert McCammon. Two authors. That's it.

So I'm relieved that I can add a third name to that list. Bentley Little is one of my favourite horror novelists, having written some splending books such as 'The Association', 'The Summoning' and 'The Mailman'. And now he presents us with a collection of 32 short stories, ranging from out-and-out horror to those that are just plain odd! With so many stories - and gems - in this anthology, it's difficult to point out any particular favourites, let alone describe them in any detail. Needless to say, if you're a fan of Little's work, be it the bloody horror of 'Night School' or the strangeness of 'The Ignored', you should be able to find plenty in here for you. Recommended.

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Without a doubt, this Bram Stoker Award winning author is one of the best writers of contemporary horror fiction. Here, in this rich anthology, the author provides the reader with thirty-two cleverly written, inventive stories of horror. These twisted stories will grab the reader, who will find it impossible to set the book aside until every last one is read.

The author regales the reader with a brief introduction to each story in which he explains its genesis. The stories themselves range from the spooky to the outright terrifying. Some are almost satirical and even funny. Yet, all are chilling in their own way. As with most of the author's work, there is a sexual theme underlying a number of the stories. So, these tales are not for the prudish or faint of heart. If you like your horror elemental, yet gripping, and have a penchant for the unusual, then there is little doubt that you will love the weird stories contained in this book. Bravo!

Read a piece about and a short story by Bentley Little in Cemetery Dance magazine in which was mentioned, that The Collection was a good place to start for Bentley Little first timers. And they were right.
The stories wary from disturbing to thought provoking to almost laid back creepy and it comes highly recommended from me.
The Collection is certainly a good starting point for newcomers and I will need to read what else this man had written.

You won't regret a buy.
