I've not stopped listening to this since i bought it - like a cross between JJ Cale and Tom Waits, this is a gem of an album.
Great sound, recorded live in what sounds like a very cool/vibey studio - has an authentic vintage sound and feel that you rarely find these days.
Don't hesitate - buy it!

Given the frequency with which Howe Gelb releases albums, either as a solo artist or as a member of the band Giant Sand,it`s easy to see each work as a glimpse into his mind at that time.
Like many of these releases, this record has its ups and downs, but has still got the quality that made Gelb a desert rock guru in the first place.
There are some twangy rockers like "Unforgivable" and "An Extended Plane of Existence",which you may find out of place in an album steeped in Gelb`s particular Americana style of writing and delivery.
His voice continues to sound even grittier as he gets older, which suits perfectly these songs. As does the playing of Gelb himself and the rest of the band.
This helps to create an album well worth having, particularly for those who know and love his music.
Enjoy it for what it is.
Whether he ever releases an album that can be considered to be a classic is questionable, but this won`t bother Gelb,or many of his followers.
