Product Description

Review

"'Encapsulated my belief in the potential of people and showed me how to translate this into appropriate action', commented one reader."

Product Description

There are four key stages to coaching, namely assessing current performance levels, setting outcomes for learning, agreeing tactics/initiating action, and giving feedback. The author explains each stage and then moves on to summarise the various skills required. Next, the opportunities for coaching and the potential pitfalls are highlighted. A checklist and a case study end the Pocketbook on a practical note.

This book is a good little reminder of the basics of coaching, it is at base level however has been really useful when discussing certain situations with clients and also for those who are looking to coach within the workplace who have never experienced coaching in the past. Not suitable for qualified or experienced coaches for their own development.

The term coaching is totally generic for all situations, and the pocket book is written accordingly - could have spawned a specific business coaching book, but I can understand why it is kept so high. It is always important to keep a high level view of what you are trying to achieve, and, as is often the case, in business, there are other parallels to personal life situations as well.

Nice little book which provides some interesting prompts for professionals who are coaching others. Although it has a business flavour, it provides some insights on how to coach effectively in the educational context.
