4.0 out of 5 stars Keep Funk Alive! 29 Mar 2003
Format:Audio CD
This 1976 album is one of the best P-funk album ever made.
"Gamin' On Ya" has nice horn-arrangements and grooves as hell as well as does "Dr.Funkenstein".
Those tracks, "Children of Productions" and "Everything Is On The One" are clear highlights of the album.
The horn section includes Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Rick Gardner and The Brecker Bros.
There are no 15 minute long one-chord-jams on this record, so it stays interesting throughout.
If you're visiting amazon lookin' for something funky, you should put this product in your basket.
I can't give this album 5 stars (maybe 4 & 1/2), because the
only 5-star-worthy album from Parliament would have to be
"The Mothership Connection" (1975).

4.0 out of 5 stars Listen while I tell you of the clones... 27 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
A "swift lippin', ego trippin' and body snatching" scientist creating a race of specially designed "Afronauts" with the purpose of sending them out to make the entire universe funky? Possibly a slightly bizarre concept for an album, but one which Parliament carry off with their customary style and aplomb. From the retro-sounding synthesised organ prelude, to the excellent horn work which is a feature of many of the tracks, this album is fun, entertaining, and very, very funky. Highlights include George Clinton's medically themed voiceover competing with famous jazz trombonist Fred Wesley in "Dr. Funkenstein", the slinky magnificence of "I've been watching you..." and the final track "Funkin' for fun", which it is almost impossible to sit still through.

So, why not 5 stars? Just a few minor criticisms - it is quite a short album, and while the material is all great, it doesn't tie in with the overall theme as well as some of the band's other concept albums. However, this is still a great CD - I highly recommend it, and for a mere eight quid, can you really go wrong?

4.0 out of 5 stars The funk is strong in this one!!! 29 Mar 2009
Format:Audio CD
If you like funky disco - this offering from the 'Godfathers' of funk give all that you may desire - includes slick and sleezy 'I've bin watchin' you and arguably, one of the best love songs in the funk genre 'gettin' to know ya', which truely shows off George Clinton's vocal talents.

All in all a must have for funk/disco afficionados and for those seeking something smokinly different from all the modern pap - give it a try
