5.0 out of 5 stars 1000 recipes, how could you go wrong 23 Jan 2006
Format:Paperback
The first thing I will say about this book like all the others in the classic 1000 series is there are so many recipes to choose from, most cookbooks offer probably 20 or 30 recipes and you will probably only attempt cooking a handful of them as they are either too complicated or have to many ingredients that your local shop doesnt stock or any other reason but this book offers 1000 recipes, even if you only find 3% of this book useful you still have a months worth of dinners to add to your list.
Secondly, its value for money. In my collection I have the Vegetarian recipes, the chinese recipes, the quick & easy recipes, the Pasta & Rice recipes, the Calorie-counted recipes and the classic low-fat recipes. Thats 6 books/6000 recipes if I only use 3% of that i'll have dinner for half a year planned out.
But that isnt to say its only dinners it has to offer, you get an introduction to the book giving advice and cooking tips. Then you have sections for Soups, Starters, Main meals(veg based, tofu & quorn based, pulse based, rice based, pasta based etc...)Side dishes, salads, light bites, hot desserts, cold desserts, sauces, dressings, spreads, breads, biscuits, cakes, drinks and nibbles.
In a word, Amazing

5.0 out of 5 stars Vegetarian cooking 24 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I own a few cookery books in this series and once again have not been disappointed with "The Classic 1000 Vegetarian Recipes". The layout of the book is sensible. The recipes range from simple to gourmet and are easy to prepare with everyday ingredients. Value for money. Paperback with a "lay-flat binding." Well priced.

5.0 out of 5 stars innovative and exciting recipes 31 Oct 2008
Format:Paperback
I bought this book to help out a friend whose husband suddenly turned vegetarian. I looked all over the bookshops to find something interesting and only came across the usual photographic delights - very pretty, but neither here nor there for the serious cook. I liked this book so much I decided to keep it and buy a second copy for my friend.
This book has, as it says, 1000 recipes, many of them new to me. I loved the no-nonsense style, the way the recipes are displayed, the general tone. If you're a real cook you'll love this book, whether you're a vegetarian or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice recipes 17 Mar 2013
By Beckie
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This recipe book has lots of good recipes inside however I personally would have liked a few more pictures. The recipes though seem very scrummy and give new ideas when making veggie foods. There are lots of recipes and the book stays open when in use. I like it!

4.0 out of 5 stars From a vegans perspective.. 7 Nov 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I brought this book second hand with free delivery off of amazon for under 3.00 so could never really complain anyway.

On arrival, I hated this book. Everything seemed to be loaded with milk, butter, cheese, egg aka fat, and was very hard to substitute for vegan alternatives. However, after realizing this book is a throw whatever is lying around together kind of book I love it. Have made four things in the last week all turned out fab! Yes, a lot contains egg, and butter but I just sub oil for butter and buck up and deal with one egg here and there as they are my chickens and know they aren't being harmed and are happy!

Overall a great book for if you come home and want food out of STORE CUPBOARD INGREDIENTS asap. Plus I adore the mixed bean and nut roast!.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for everyday vegetarian cooking 29 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a great, simple cookbook for any one who wants lots of vegetarian ideas. First of all, there are so many recipes that you are bound to find something you want to cook. Second, most of the recipes are simple and do not have too many hard to find ingredients. As a vegetarian on a budget with no imagination at all, I will be coming back to this book for ideas for many years to come.

The only downside is the lack of pictures which I usually like to refer to when cooking, but many of the recipes are so straightforward that it isnt much of an issue.

Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who wants to cook everyday vegetarian food on a budget - not necessarily those who want amazing dinner party ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed 9 Nov 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
When I bought this book I thought I would have the usual vegetarian recipes of omelettes and puddings without eggs, not to say those which merely replaced meat with soya. Not at all. This book was great. Even for meat-eaters. There is such a variety of ideas and each recipe is set out simply with few ingredients and the simplest instructions for cooking. I am usually put off following recipes, daunted by the long list of foods I have to find and the length of instructions I have to read. No so here. It is two minutes to read and you are away. Highly recommended.
