Fantastic! 29 Feb 2008
Format:Paperback
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a proof copy of Procession of the Dead. Having read all of Darren Shan's children's books I wasn't sure at all if I would like this book from the info on the sleeve. I didn't need to worry - I LOVED it! In essence this book is a gangster tale with loads of twists and turns which sucks the reader into the story as you just want answers to all the mystery. Its well written, fast pasted and easy to read. Even if you are not sure you like this genre I urge you to give it a go - you won't be disappointed. I even gave the book to my mum (who usually hates this kind of thing) and she thought it was great! I can't wait until the next book is out next year to see how life in the city will unfold.......

Having read Darrens books aimed at the younger readers and thoroughly enjoying them he recommended trying this as his adult book. I enjoyed it though it took a while to get going. At first it felt like a book written aimed at teenagers but it got better. I still prefer the Demonata series and Darren Shan trilogy. Don't be put off if you're an adult as they are first class and not at all childish.I am 45 and loved them. I'm looking forwardto the arrival of the second in the City Trilogy.

Have only got half way through this book, however I am loving it. As a fan of Darren shans children books I decided to try out the Adult books, and although found it hard to start with I have got into the book and now I am loving it.

Wow!
Wow, what can I say? I'm a big fan of Darren Shan, he's my favourite author so far. But I've only read his children's books, and I'm not too sure what I was expecting from this. Read more

Beautifully written and incredibly clever
As ever, Darren Shan has shown how magic can ooze from the fingers of man.

He leaves you asking questions that only start to become answered towards the end. Read more

Pity!!!
Unfortunately this book didn't get well with me at all. I needed ages to finish it and I didn't feel any passion growing towards any of the characters throughout the whole reading. Read more

Interesting but ultimately a disappointment
Mystery thriller with strong elements of fantasy, this is set in an un-named fictional city in a world much like our own - there have been Incas and a Nazi holocaust in its... Read more

not as good as I hoped
As a huge fan of Shan's previous books, I was really looking forward to reading this series. However, the storyline just doesn't appeal to me, although that is, I guess, a more... Read more

Dark side of the city
He's done vampires, and he's done demons. So Darren Shan approaches a different kind of fantasy/horror in "Procession of the Dead," his first novel for adults. Read more
