Thank you! 4 Oct 2003
By Kim
Format:DVD
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
How obsessed was I with this when I was a kid? I drove my parents to distraction watching it over and over again until they could probably have quoted it, never mind until I could!
When I found a copy on the videos in my local library a few weeks ago I knew that I had to get them out! I had great memories from when I was a kid and just had to watch them again! I approached them with great trepedition, cos lets be honest, the books were fab, and was it possible for these to be anything like as good as I remembered them? Quite simply yes!
I remember the queen in teh Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe used to terrify me, but now I just think that she's wonderful! Rather unfortunately Aslan also used to terrify me, but what can you do? The Prince Caspian ones were great, especially the rat whoes name I now can't remember, (plus I had an utterley huge crush on rince Caspian when these came out!) And when rewatching the Silver Chair I rediscover Tom Baker who I had completely forgotten was even in it!
An added bonus for me was that I had recently visited Hawkstone Park where large parts of Prince Caspian were filmed!!!
Anyway, one with raving, this is absolutely fabulous, and in no way the let down that I have often come to expect with things based on wonderful books! My only problem is that they never made the other three books as well! A must have, whether you remember when these were originally shown or not!

Great 2 May 2004
By A Customer
Format:DVD
I am surprised that it has taken this long for these classics to hit dvd. I still remember as a child watching these and being amazed at the magical world I saw before me.
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is by far the best out of them all. The storyline is much stronger and it has a much more magical feeling to it. What I find strange is that even now, many years on! I can still remember each scene so well.

Extras DvD
When I heard that an interview with the original cast was to be included I was looking forward to it. I was a little disappointed however to discover that it lasted on 10 minutes. The length aside it was well worth watching.

Overall Points
-All films have been transferred perfectly on to dvd
-There have been some small scenes added to the Lion the witch and the wardrobe if you watch closely.

Simply magical! 5 Jan 2006
Format:DVD
Watching these wonderful series again just takes me back to Sunday afternoons in my childhood!
Even now, surrounded by the CGI world of movies where stunning effects are everything, I was still impressed and delighted watching this set of the BBC series again. As the new movie shows, the mythical creatures are created by CGI to look as real and 3D as possible. In the BBC version they have combined cartoon animation for the creatures, mixed in with the actors. BUT, this all adds to the beauty of it and still works very well and is pleasant on the eye.

The children actors for the most part are very good, the costumes are excellent and the thing I was still in awe of was Aslan! I'd forgotten what an amazing piece of design he was!! In "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe", the White Witch is just so evil, a baddie in the time when baddies really DID look evil and had the right cackle! Yes, some of the scenes are simplistic and occasionally wooden in the acting stakes, but it all adds to the nostalgia and magic somehow.

This DVD box set is a beautiful set, with clear menus to navigate. The Special Features disc is a great bonus; it was nice to see the actors together again in the 2003 Interview, and hear what they'd been up to. There are also behind-the-scenes featurettes from various TV progs from the time etc.
The transfer to DVD has been excellent. This is a set all the family can enjoy again and again. BRILLIANT!!

This is BBC version!
I bought this because I thought these were the the Walt Disney movies, but this is a low cost old BBC production filmed in 80s-90s. I am extremely disapointed.

more emotionally true than Disney, but less slick
This is a great deal. You get the basics of most of the Chronicles, well acted and not excessively digital-synthetic, faithful to the books and without silly Hollywood melodrama. Read more
