When I heard that the soundtrack for 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' was going to be composed by David Arnold instead of Harry Gregson-Williams, who had written the soundtrack to the previous two Narnia films, I was mortified! Gregson-Williams' music was phenomenal and, in my opinion, made the film. So I found the change of composer both unnecessary and disgraceful. However, I went to see the film with an open mind, but the music did not fit the nature of the film. I was good music, but failed to ignite the spark which the other soundtracks had. This in turn meant that the film failed to portray the awe-inspiring fantasy of Narnia. The best parts of the soundtrack were when music from the first two films was used, most notably when at the end of the world scene, described in the book as "heartbreaking and leaving them awestruck so they could "never speak of it again", one of the main motifs Gregson-Williams composed for the first Narnia films was used. We just hope that someone comes to their senses, and reinstates Harry Gregson-Williams for the next films to bring back the true music of Narnia!
