Product Description

Product Description

A much loved classic of fantasy literature written by a grumpy, pipe smoking don in a smelly tweedy jacket being turned into a massive worldwide cinema hit. Where have we seen that before? Lord of the Rings was, of course, immense when it got the Hollywood treatment. Narnia will match it. We sold more than 300,000 copies of BORED OF THE RINGS and followed this 160,000 sales of two associated Tolkien parodies. Now Mike Gerber moves on from his 500,000 copy BARRY TROTTER sucess to line up the next big target.

About the Author

____ Wonderful! 11 Dec 2005
Format:Hardcover
The Chronicles of Blarnia is full of low-brow jokes, toilet humour and childish asides. None of this prevents it from being one of the funniest things I've ever read - indeed, I just finished it and have been chuckling noisily for hours.

Okay, some of the parody elements are particularly moronic - take Asthma the Messianic house-cat, the overweight Wide Witch or young Ed with his overweight-ladies fixation - but Michael Gerber always follows a bad gag with a fantastic one. What's most surprising is that the joke's impact is sustained throughout. And when Gerber repeats a joke he usually follows it with a knowing wink.

He may have ruined the recent film for me (I'll have this fresher in mind than C.S. Lewis' novel), but at least I got a fun read out of it. Hysterical, and hugely recommended.

Michael Gerber writes amusing books, such as Barry Trotter. He continues his amusing jokes in THE CHRONICLES OF BLARNIA and i definately laughed out loud more than once, but i felt it got a bit too strange, complicated and there weren't as many jokes as i expected. I recommend you do buy this but you definately wont read it again. Not as funny as i'd hoped but could have been worse.

Brilliant 3 Feb 2007
By David H
Format:Paperback
A parody needs to be witty and funny coupled with atleast a certain level of interlect, and this book clearly achieves all of these things. Some of the mickey takes on parts of the story are genius, and serve to create a very readable and humerous novel.
