5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Children's Book! 24 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is another fantastic Christmas story for children aged 9+ from this author. I loved it!

Billy Neale is a bright, smart and inquisitive young man. I really liked him a lot. He lives in a village called Trundleford in England, which is normally quite dull and boring, but a mysterious event occurs and Billy is determined to find out the truth. What he finds out will change his life forever!

This is a fabulous story that kept me hooked from the first page! I loved the way the story unfolded. The mystery of the continuous snow, and the whereabouts of Billy's missing Grandad, plus the mysterious Christmas decorations that keep popping up kept me intrigued. Then I met the Bells, Billy's neighbours. They are a strange bunch! They are Noel, Gloria and Joy. Talk about eccentric! I loved meeting them. Their strangeness hides a secret that had me wondering "What if?". I'm not going to say much more, because I don't want to put spoilers in. However, I will say that this book is an adventure from beginning to end!

Nicola Palmer is an author with a vivid imagination. Her characters are likable and very lifelike; her writing style is fast paced, but easy for young readers to follow. She is one of my favourite YA authors, but if she decides to branch out into another genre, I would definitely read her work!

I highly recommend this book for both boys and girls aged 9+ as a stocking filler, or a "just because" book. However, I also recommend this book to adults who love reading the younger YA genre. - Lynn Worton

5.0 out of 5 stars A delight to read 30 Nov 2013
By Ignite TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the second Christmas story by Nicola Palmer that I've enjoyed. She is able to write a story for children which can encapsulate the excitement of the season but give it an entirely different slant. Billy's family are affected by the unseasonably early snow (September!) as his Dad, a builder, is out of work. Billy meets their strange new neighbours. As the story unfolds we find out more about the neighbours and what happened almost a year ago to Granddad.

Nicola Palmer doesn't write down to her young audience which is no doubt why her stories have a much wider appeal. She has a lovely and deceptively simple style of writing which makes her stories a delighted to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read - Good Story 4 Jan 2014
By This Kid Reviews Books - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Billy Neale, and all of his town, was sick of the snow. That may surprise you, since it was almost Christmas, but the snow had started in September, and didn’t melt at all since then (It usually doesn’t snow until December-ish). Plus there are a bunch Christmas decorations showing up out of nowhere – with NO footprints in the snow to track the culprits! Plus, there are those neighbors across the street who showed up in September – with the snow… Billy knows there is something really weird going on. Billy decides to take matters into his own hands and figure out what is going on!

Ms. Palmer is the author of the Alice Parker series that I really enjoy. This is the second Christmas book I’ve read of hers. This new Christmas book from Nicola Palmer is a fun, thrilling, suspenseful adventure, with everything from snow-storms to aliens! How Ms. Parker combines Christmas, mystery and aliens is great! Billy is a great character – very kind and considerate, and is determined to figure out a problem. I really ended up caring for him as a character. The ending is great, but kind of a cliffhanger. I hope Ms. Palmer makes a sequel. I really enjoyed this story. :) I think kids with a great imagination will find this book a fun read.
*NOTE* I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
