Book Description

14 Sep 2010
Creative thinking (and some clever recycling) help save the day in a sweet Christmas story that celebrates the shared pleasures of friendship.

Humphrey is a giant, and Leetree, his best friend, is an elf. Together they love making wrapping paper for all of Santa’s presents. But this year Santa has asked them to grow a Christmas tree, and the pair couldn’t be more excited! They take great care with their project, planting and watering, snipping and pruning. Finally, the tree is wrapped and ready, and Humphrey and Leetree set off to deliver it. But when disaster strikes, the giant and the elf must come up with a way to make things right. From a small idea comes a big plan—and a surprise no one in Christmastown will soon forget!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas classic in the making? 31 Oct 2010
This is a delightful book, beautifully written and even more beautifullly illustrated. It is playful and fun, yet conveys important messages to youngsters, without being overly saccharine or 'obvious'. I can see this becoming a classic Christmas tale, to be read and re-read in the run-up to Xmas many times in the coming years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful children's book 20 Nov 2010
By Julie C - Published on Amazon.com

I got this in the mail today and read it to my one and two year old tonight. The illustrations were full of details like whorly hair on the giant's knuckles. The story is about a giant and an elf who run into trouble delivering a Christmas tree. They use the skills and talents they already have to solve the problem and deliver something better than what they started with. This is a kind tale, with no bad feelings or disagreements. The story gave us a chance to talk about feeling happy and feeling sad. The final solution is clever and beautiful. My kids loved picking out different things in the book, like trees, starts, beards, etc. When it was over, my three year old said, "Let's read it again." I can't say much better than that. I give out very few 5 star reviews, but this was a beautiful book that I highly recommend. Oh, and my kids loved feeling the texturized Christmas tree in the cover illustration.

5.0 out of 5 stars soon to be a classic 3 Nov 2010
By Marcia J. Davis - Published on Amazon.com
As a parent and a preschool teacher, I LOVE this book. It is sweet and simple yet really well written and beautifully illustrated. It is clear that the author works with children as he has really caught the spirit of what kids like. The big/little comparisons throughout are so relevant for the target age and add a whole academic dimension to the cozy family classic it is sure to become.

I just love the illustrations in this book. The story is wonderful for my toddler. I especially like part where the tree drifts off in the water. The replacement tree is beautiful. The writing is clever. This is a book that parents will love to read their children.
