Product Description

Product Description

The historical Jesus was many things but he was not the Christian god preached to us for centuries.

The Christ Conundrum re-examines the evidence from the Gospels, the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Apocrypha, to reconstruct the life and times of Jesus. This line of thought allows us to identify Jesus' and his mission as they really were and the results are sure to surprise. Jesus was a wandering Rabbi with a political agenda, a faith healer and exorcist; and Jesus believed that the end of the world would come within the lifetime of his disciples (just look at what he says in Matthew 16:28).

By closely scrutinizing the evidence we can see plenty of oddities. For example, Jesus seems to have a brother called James who appears as the leader of the emerging Christian movement after Jesus' crucifixion. In the New Testament he even outranks the apostle Paul. Yet James' has been quietly erased from history. Why?

Read the Christ Conundrum to answer this and many other questions. Read this if you are an atheist or skeptic looking for ammunition against your Christian friends. Read it if you want to know the truth.

This book is quite insightful into finding out who the real Jesus was. Although the main conclutions will no doubt offend many a do-gooder Christian, you can't fault the evidence that is used and the way the argument is presented.

The author specifically goes out to attack Christian theology and teachings about Jesus as God. One good example from the book is the title 'son of god.' Actually this title was applied to many other Jewish prophets in the past, it meant simply that one was close to God, and it seems Christians have taken this title out of context.

The best part of the book is understanding who the historical jesus was, and there are many surprises in store. And the section on What Jesus really teaches is an eye opener.

The real Jesus is a much more interesting character than the christian version!!

I've not read a lot about the subject but it caught my eye on kindle. I was pretty hooked, well researched and well argued, and written clearly so even I could understand it!! I can now backup my thoughts with factual information and it makes for interesting post dinner discussions!! well worth a read for people with open minds, I'd like to read a christian response!!!

For anyone with an interest in history and the evolution/migration/corruption of ideas. The writing style is clean, clear and entertaining and the research is impressive. Thoroughly enjoyable and has sparked a real interest in me for the history of the christian church. Loved it.

The four gospels of the New Testament became to be favored above all others around 185 CE when Irenaeus of Lyons, an early church father, denounced other sects of Christianity for using only one gospel each or using newer gospels. "e;

Many alternative gospels were written, in fact we have ten complete gospels in existence and scores of fragmented ones. "e;

Special as Jesus may seem, if anything he seems to fit quite snugly into what might be termed the archetypal charismatic healer and wonder worker of who we shall now meet several more. "e;
