This is an excellent reader and introduction to the writings of Rey Chow whose work on cross-cultural studies is essential for those interested in understanding the complexities involved in studying and/or writing about other cultures. While Chow's writing is highly theoretical, drawing mainly on the work of Derrida, Lacan and Foucault amongst others, she never forgets that there is a lived reality outside of systems of representation and the political implications of engaging in such a study. Any book that changes and/or challenges the way that you think is indispensable, and this is such a book for me. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
