Book Description

It was a dark and stormy night when the Stranger came to call. Sarah Grey’s second child was breached; the twin was going to die.

The Stranger offered help.

Twenty years later, Raven Grey, the second twin born on that fated night, is now an extraordinarily beautiful woman. With a gift.

But what is the price to pay for that gift?

If Raven and her brother can not escape the handsome and powerful elf prince, outwit the dark and dangerous bounty hunter, and defeat the ancient, mighty Death Mage - Raven is sure to learn just what that price is.

And pay dearly.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A true fantasy tale 11 Feb. 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I adored this book! It really had everything - myth, magic, religion, erotica - what more could one want? I liked the way the author rattles the story along and every now and again just when you think she's given you everything that could be included she adds another dimension to the extent that you have to stop and take a breath. I eagerly await the sequel to this and unlike other reviewers would heavily dispute that the end of the story is left in mid-air - whilst it definitely leaves you wanting more it does tie up a number of loose ends at closure and you are left considering what the future holds.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding 23 Jan. 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not a lovely of science fiction books I came upon this one quite by accident when browsing the kindle store. Needing something to read I downloaded it, I could not bear to put it down once I started reading. I was gripped from the first word and dragged head long into the story with a sense of wonderment. Page after page I was enthralled by the characters and the story line. such vivid pictures rushed through my mind as I read and I could have actually been there as I became completely caught up in the drama. Needless to say I loved it and cannot wait for the follow up story, the characters are spell binding. I shall be downloading the rest of this ladies books in the hope they are anything like this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly Beautiful 10 Aug. 2010
    A Kid's Review
    Format:Kindle Edition
Pieces of this story still come back to me unexpectedly more than a month after I first finished it. The author has a writing style so visual and evocative it is impossible not to be transported right into the center of the world she creates. Mythical, magical and yet heart breakingly human in it's depiction of familial love, romantic love and parental love, the story of Raven and her introduction to her unique inheritance, as her brother Loki stands loyally and protectively by her side and she by his, is like nothing else I have ever read, so much so that I started reading it all over again. It is so original and compelling that I never had the slightest idea where it was leading me but I was never disappointed. The author's presence is barely felt: she allows the story to tell itself yet manages to steer it perfectly. The prose is concise yet stirring. The story is exciting and passionate, poignant and heart felt. The best way to read it is to give yourself up to it and just go along for the ride.

    2.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad it was only 72p! 23 Feb. 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was like a Mills and Boon demon love story, written like a fairy tail. I lost count of the number of times Raven/Winter was kidnapped, beaten up, overpowered, weak, whisked away etc, etc etc. What a pathetic character! Elves, orks, avatars and demons fighting and a bit of blood drinking... it was all in there. I'm afraid it wasn't for me - and I read a lot of science fiction, fantasy and horror.

Then when you finally get to the last page, you find that it's really only part of the overall story and you are left with an unfinished story.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Chosen Soul 9 Jun. 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is one of those books I really enjoyed reading at the time, but afterwards lots of flaws about it struck me. I honestly can't rate it less than four stars because I did enjoy the world and the plot, and the flaws didn't bother me whilst I was reading. At the same time, the flaws are definitely there, so now I've finished the book, I feel conflicted over my enjoyment versus how technically good the book was.

So, what I liked: the world and the plot, as mentioned. It's nothing especially fresh or original, but it is well done. Raven Grey is a beautiful women with an unearthly legacy that she's yet to discover. Her powers and heritage make her both a target and a weapon, and place her in a pivotal role in deciding the fate of the world. There are elves, bounty hunters, necromancers, lots of stuff I like. I enjoyed the glimpse into Caina, one of the demonic realms, and kinda wished there'd been more action down there.

What I didn't like: the characters are fairly thin. Raven is beautiful. Loki is devoted. The bounty hunter is mysterious. The elvish prince is vain. They're not quite sterotypes, but there's not much depth or growth. Some characters, like Zeta, the elvish princess and Summer, Loki's possible love interest, are introduced and flagged as potentially important, then vanish without trace.

Raven is constantly being threatened with rape. Every man she meets, with the exception of her brother, lusts after her. By the third attempted rape I was just rolling my eyes, which is not the reaction I should have to attempted rape. What made it all the more frustrating is that Raven is supposed to be so powerful, but any time her magic could have been useful in saving her life, she conveniently can't use it.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant read 14 Jan. 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Another great book by this Author. HKW's books always suck me in. I just can't force myself to put them down until I've finished. This book ends on a bit of a cliff hanger for one of the characters, but I'm glad to see a sequel is planned. WooHoo.
