Review

Far from the fad diet it may seem, Barber's book explains how chopsticks slow you down and stop you shovelling in huge mouthfuls --Marie Claire

Product Description

Kimiko Barber uses traditional ingredients to offer perfectly balanced dishes from breakfast through to dinner. She takes advantage of Japanese ingredients that are highly nutritious and very low in fat, including tofu and seaweeds, but she also includes, among others, konyaku that has no calories or fat but is high in fibre. With health-giving recipes like 'Crab and Pomegranate Scattered Sushi' to 'Baked Fish and Vegetable Parcels', filled with nutritious, low-fat and delicious ingredients, this is the stress-free way to enjoy your food whilst losing weight.

Excellent Book 1 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
I have had this book since it first came out and keep going back to it as I am trying to eat more healthily for the long term. Once you get some of the basic ingredients in (e.g. miso, sake, soy sauce, tofu, short grain brown rice, etc), it is pretty much a matter of buying fresh veg as needed. I have also read the Japanese Women Don't Get Old or Fat Books (original and recipe book) and have found that The Chopsticks Diet is a good way to get started eating in the Japanese way..... You can order in a lot of the Japanese products online from Japanese grocers and most food stores have Cauldron's tofu and you can order miso and a lot of other Japanese products in from your local health food store although they are most likely more expensive than a Japanese grocery store.

This book is definitely one of those cookbooks that look lovely on the shelf. Also all the images of the food look beautiful. The recopies in the book are very lunch friendly so if you're looking for healthy food you can bring to work instead of grabbing the usual plate of chips this is your book. My only issue is some of the ingredients are a bit hard to come by and you will need to visit an Asian market or specialist shop. This book requires commitment in that sense.
