Product Description

He s taken on schoolchildren; he s taken on teachers; but now, Gareth Malone is about to take on a whole town! The community of South Oxhey don t know it yet, but their lives are about to be transformed. Built to house homeless post-war Londoners, South Oxhey has fallen out of love with itself since the 1950s, becoming bleak, withdrawn and unwelcoming, viewed suspiciously by outsiders; defensively by insiders. That s about to change. When Gareth Malone arrives and tries to stoke up interest in a community choir, resistance goes up like a wall. But gradually cracks appear as Gareth divides and conquers with three choirs, of schoolchildren, locals, and a small but hardcore men s group. How they come together to form the largest community choir in Europe is a story of laughter, tears, commitment and community; a community that learned to love singing, and learned to love itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gareth Malone does it again 30 Sep 2011
Once again, Gareth Malone has demonstrated his extraordinary ability to bring people together by means of choral music. As has been his wont, he persuaded reluctant singers in a post-war estate bordering on North London to trust him to bring a sense of community and fulfillment to their town, something the townspeople themselves regarded as quite impossible. He created not just one, but three choirs out of this unpromising material, in the process proving what can be done through music and a sense of commitment to ordinary people regarded as having no talent at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars In Perfect Tune 13 Sep 2011
Gareth Malone never ceases to amaze me. Every show he does, he seems to single-handedly transform the lives of a group of people with minimal effort. This particular series sees him attempt to transform the town of South Oxhey, a small estate which seems to have fallen off the map and, from outsiders, has gained somewhat of a stereotypical reputation.

So Gareth shows up and tries to get them all singing in a community choir. This series follows his/their progress as we get to know some of the local residents. Its a show with real heart and character. It definitely made me want to go join a local choir!
