Book Description

18 Feb 2014
It's Somerset for the Sanford 3rd Age Club and, at a busy charity weekend in the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, Joe, Sheila and Brenda are looking forward to a relaxing time. But along with the chocolate for the Great Egg Hunt, someone has hidden a body, and even before the rain stops, the STAC are in the thick of it. Threatened with violence as he tries to learn the identity of the bad-tempered redhead wandering round town, embroiled in blackmail and hidden personal histories, while the body count rises, Joe and his two companions struggle to make sense of what is going on around them. With the Easter Bonnet Parade to come, it's obvious these are no accidents. They're MURDER... amongst the chocolate eggs.

More About the Author

David Robinson is a Yorkshireman living on the outskirts of Manchester, northwest England, with his wife and a crazy Jack Russell Terrier named Joe (because he looks like a Joe).

David writes in several genres under different pseudonyms, but his mainstay is crime and mystery. In January 2012 Crooked Cat Publishing picked up the first of his popular Sanford 3rd Age Club Mysteries, The Filey Connection. Since then a further ten STAC Mysteries have been published by Crooked Cat (and the 12th is due soon) and more titles are planned for 2014 and 2015.

He also produces darker, edgier thrillers, such as The Handshaker, The Deep Secret and Voices; titles which are aimed exclusively at an adult audience and which question our perceptions of reality.

In a more light-hearted mood again, he uses the sledgehammer humour of his alter-ego Flatcap, to reflect on the absurdities of the world at large. Three Flatcap volumes are currently available for download.

As at June 2014, he is working on the 12th STAC Mystery, working title, Murder in the Family, and The Haunting of Melmerby Manor, has just been released. The first of a new series, The Spookies Mysteries, Melmerby Manor combines ghost-hunting with a whodunit. While not particularly frightening, there are scenes which may set the reader's hair on end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting better 10 Jun 2013

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with these books. I have generally complained about Joe's attitude to the police and suspects but in this book - based around a long weekend in Weston-Super-Mare over Easter, Joe appears to have mellowed - or is it me? It is a very easy read, relaxing after a day at work or chilling by the pool.

Another brilliant saga from the Sandford Third Age Club. Can't put them down till they're finished. Might come from the other end of the country but all the characters are instantly recognisable.

Not up to the standard of the first six books in the series. But still a good read and good to be set away in Weston.

Follows the same plot as the usual Sanford mysteries, non scary stories although there are some murders to solve. Good read, amusing too.

detective story of the third age - a bit different, and a good read on the train. I shall possibly try another in the series.
