5.0 out of 5 stars A straightforward approach 4 Aug 2000
Format:Paperback
I hope you are not put off this edition when I say it is simple. I have been flummoxed by overly-complex translations of the I-Ching. This open interpretation invites the reader to meet it "half way" - it has an excellent introduction and guidance on how to use the I-Ching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly accessible, profound and direct. 17 July 2002
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The most beautiful things are often very simple and such is the case with this wonderful translation of the I-Ching. It is very easy to use but Browne-Walker consistently manages to capture the real essence of the I-Ching free from any subjective bias or 'interpretation' - any decent translation does not 'carry' the reader, rather it leaves them to traverse this space individually. The I-Ching's counsel is often profoundly challenging and this is reflected with a direct, no-holds-barred style.

4.0 out of 5 stars Friendly Book of Changes 11 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
I have owned this book for a few years now, as well as other translations which are more academic and often more obscure. I still use this version as it is so well laid out and accessible, especially if you are wanting a quick reading and interpretation.
The only thing that has perturbed me a little is the coin oracle information: the author assigns a value of 3 to the head and 2 to the tail of the coin, whereas my other versions assign 2 to the head and 3 to the tail. Not sure whether at the point of consultation the value makes a difference or not, as it is the intent of the moment to bring you something to work with, but it would be good to know for sure what the value is, I need a little bit of security in my consultations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knowledge, Insight, and deep understanding 13 Oct 2009
By Paulo
Format:Paperback
I like the way how the I Ching is explained and presented to the reader in this book. I found it very clear and easy to understand, and I like the way how the information found in the book, is presented in a simple but quiet attractive, page layout, and how it was finally edited. To read the I Ching as a philosophical work, like one does when reading the Tao Te Ching is fine, and it could help us to gain more knowledge, and wisdom, or understanding, and deep insight, for it's advice is good and well balanced. But to use it as an Oracle or a fortune teller, would not be a good idea, for it would be breaking one of God's commandments, found in Deuteronomy 18:10-12 "There should not be found in you anyone...who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. You should prove yourself faultless with Jehovah your God." If one doubts of God's existence, it still would be better to apply the I Ching as an intellectual source of wisdom and understanding, rather than to use it as an Oracle or fortune teller, because in this way, not only it would save time, but it would be possible to make a question and instead of selecting a single hexagram or point of view, one could select a few hexagrams, or even all the I Ching's hexagrams, or points of view, and reflect on how it's advice could be applied to answer a particular question, or to help solving a personal problem. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic tool for living 12 Jan 2008
By David Crossley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a fantastic book that simplifies usage of the I Ching. The I Ching is wise almost beyond belief, and I have used this book regularly for about 15 years. I've bought about 20 copies for friends and family, and am deeply saddened to see it is no longer available. I cannot count the number of times using this book late at night or early in the morning has guided me to do and say things in a way that enlists people's support and defuses my anger or ego before I go out in public and just blow it.
