5.0 out of 5 stars Already in anticipation for the next book 29 Feb 2012
By bassgiraffe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Craig Page, a former CIA agent, sets out to uncover his daughter Francesca's killer, who was on the biggest story of her reporting career. Craig teams up with Elizabeth Crowder, Francesca's editor. The unlikely duo, on a mission to solve a murder, comes across a conspiracy leading from China through to a CIA director; taking Craig and Elizabeth all over the world to find answers. As the story unfolds you realize that this is more than finding Craig's daughter's killer, as this conspiracy could change the world. You see the fate of the world lying in the hands of Craig, and in a state of wonderment, you begin to ask yourself "can he really save the world?"

The China Gambit is a great read! Allan Topol is an amazing writer, very articulate, giving a story that is detailed and easy to follow, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was in a state of suspense, and not wanting to put the book down, always wanting to know what happened next. If it is suspense and a thriller novel that you seek, then look no further, this is the book for you. I am waiting in anticipation for Allan Topol's next book The Spanish Revenge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Greed In The Highest Places 24 Jan 2012
By Deborah J. Sloan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
More, more, more-it seems that is the only goal of some people in this thrilling international espionage tale that reaches to the highest levels of governments and those in power. More money, more power, more of everything. As for Craig Page wanting to uncover the truth about his daughter'Francesca's murder draws him into discovering plots that could bring down the United States and place China to rule over the world's oil supplies.

The truth of the matter is I found these people could be reflective of many in real life which was a bit disturbing. But I will say reading The China Gambit is an exciting ride from the first to the last page. Action is non-stop and when you are faced with concerns that can affect entire governments and heads of state it forces you to pay attention.

As with most novels there is always a love interest included and in this Craig Page series book we find one in Elizabeth Crowder, Francesca Page's editor who joins Craig in his efforts to find out who murdered Francesca and what the story is she was working on that could lead to her death. Though I found the love scenes between them believable, I also didn't think they were necessary to put in the book, a bit of voyeurism that made this certainly a book I would not recommend a teen read, which I found sad. I can however picture this on the big screen bring in enormous success at the box office should it ever be made into a film.

I did enjoy reading The China Gambit and would recommend it to any who are interested in international intrigue. From Canada, Tehran, and Bejing you'll be swept up in the stream of excitement.
