Book Description

18 July 2013
Some monsters only exist in nightmares - others exist for real ...While hunting in the Nez Pearce National Forest, Idaho, two men are just about to take a prize-winning shot when their prey unexpectedly bolts. From the forest behind them lunges a huge, horrific creature that crushes one man and tears after the other in a loping mass of rage. Just as he has embarked on a search to find his missing fiancee, Ethan Warner and his partner, Nicola Lopez, are summoned to a meeting with Doug Jarvis of the Defence Intelligence Agency at a research laboratory outside the city. There, they learn that they are being sent north to interview Jesse MacCarthy, a man accused of a double homicide. But all is not as it seems. Jesse swears blind that the other men were killed by a monster. But as Warner and Lopez dig deeper, they uncover a military secret that has been kept under wraps for generations, an experiment that went terribly wrong, and danger lurking in the highest echelons of the US government.

Review

"'Earth-shattering intrigue, hyperdrive action and a desperate race to save humanity, cranked up to the max with scarily realistic science... a major new talent has hit the mystery thriller scene' (Scott Mariani, author of The Lost Relic) 'Get the cameras rolling - Indiana Jones meets Alien. What a combination of mystery, suspense, and unspeakable horror. I loved it!' (R.L. Stine) 'Partly mythical read, part thriller this pacy tale is a page turner guaranteed to keep you up late' --Sun

About the Author

Dean Crawford began writing after his dream of becoming a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force was curtailed when he failed their stringent sight tests. Fusing his interest in science with a love of fast-paced revelatory thrillers, he soon found a career that he could pursue with as much passion as flying a fighter jet. Now a full-time author, he lives with his partner and daughter in Surrey. Visit www.deancrawfordbooks.com and follow Dean on Twitter @DCrawfordBooks.

I started reading Dean Crawford novel's when 'Covenant' was released and found i loved the style of writing, hence now i have read Deans three other novels, Immortal,Apocalypse and now Chimera Secret.
I am drawn into the books by the action and adventure, the great characters of Warner and Lopez and the greatly researched science in each novel.
Chimera Secret is set in a forest in Idaho where some horrific murders have happened. Warner and Lopez have been sent to investigate,it's not all that it seems!...the military are involved in an experiment which seems to have gone wrong.Your on the edge of your seat reading how things are uncovered and what the outcome is.
Really looking forward to Dean's fifth novel when it is released!

5.0 out of 5 stars Its true, you just can't put it down 13 July 2013

Just finished this excellent book by this excellent thriller writer. Like many others I'm sure, I've read all the books in the Ethan Warner series so far: Covenant, Immortal, Apocalypse (CIA!) and now this one and they all left me feeling the same - I need more and I need it now! If you haven't read them all, it's not too late to catch up. I think the author has been time travelling himself because the graphic on this book cover looks like a picture of my bleary eyes reading on the tablet late at night and peering over the duvet for one last check before turning the light out. Seriously, limit yourself to reading at the weekend if you drive or operate heavy machinery because you won't get much sleep during the week. Soul Seekers next but, when is the next Ethan Warner story ready....Search "Dean Crawford Books" on Facebook and link up to find out! 5 stars for all 4 books from me. Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Damn Good Yarn !! 6 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Dean Crawford writes a good thriller, and he hits the mark here with this creepy and gory story of angry Bigfoot creatures in present day Idaho. Written as part of the 'Warner and Lopez' rolling series, this story can be read as a stand alone novel.

Crawford's story revolves around hideous practices of the CIA during the 1970s; the so-called Project MK:ULTRA where mind control and hypnotic training were practiced upon unwitting members of the public and military personnel also. In 'The Chimera Secret', the same crimes have been inflicted upon Bigfoot and his family; and he isn't happy !! Enter Ethan Warner and Nicola Lopez, working for the Defence Intelligence Agency, ordered to find out what's been killing the citizens of Idaho out in the dense national forests.

Crawford keeps you interested from the start and introduces some entertaining and three dimensional characters. He also widens the story with a subplot involving the search for Warner's fiance, Joanne, a journalist who went missing in Israel and has been gone for some time and introduces Nathan's sister as the one who searches for her.

Like 'Apocalypse' and 'Immortal', you need to read this with an open mind and a pinch of fantasy, but ultimately you will be satisfied with it. Modern conspiracy stories sometimes lack a punch, however, this does not. Excellent and a good weekends read.

Format:Kindle Edition
Yet another amazing story from D.Crawford Ethan Warner series.
I have read all his books so far and have been very remiss in not reviewing them as they deserve.
Surely this new Author will be recognized as a prolific writer in time.
The Chimera Secret is yet another example of Thriller/ Adventure type novels which the reader can't put down till the last page.
Please keep writing D.C.

Great continuation of Ethan Warner's search for his missing financee Joanna... Joined again by Nicola Lopez in this very intruiging thriller again demonising the CIA, (understandably) in its role against DIA. This time they are sent by their DIA boss as independent consultants to determine if, in fact some kind of monster is responsible for killing and by the accounts of Jesse McCarthy, tearing apart a forest ranger and carrying off and his brother while his other brother is found hanging in his garage. He is charged with murder on 2 counts with a possible third hanging over his head but sticks to his story of a giant Mountain Monster. Ethan and Nicola are chasing fact from fiction while Ethan's sister discovers that she and all the members of her family are and have been under surveillance for some time. Will she find the truth? Is there a monster in the remote national forest, Idaho? And, whose side is Jarvis (DIA) really on?

Dean Crawford has developed a concept of intertwining fact and fiction in his last "Warner" novels and this is no exception. He tempts his readers into wondering if there is more than a little substance to his tales than pure fiction and this is no exception. Without giving anything away Project MKUltra has been written of in a non-fiction version by many an investigative journalist and many a theory has been quickly quashed. Presenting a fictional version gives the reader a chance to ponder on the probabilities and possibilities of modern (and historic) warfare research and of course recognise the agency conflicts existing in the dark denziens of various US departments. This is another excellent book and I cannot wait for the next one in the series
