Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Having pretty much cornered the market for great dance compilations with Clubber Guides, Trance Nations, Annuals and the like, Ministry Of Sound took a step away from the dancefloor with its first major chillout compilation The Chillout Session. And as with their more uptempo assortments, the quality of the tracks is superlative. From the subtle downtempo beats and pieces of Jakatta's "American Dream" to the Ibizan sunset vibes of York's "The Awakening" to horizontal classics like Lemon Jelly's "In The Bath" and Leftfield's "Melt", you can almost picture the lava lamp steadily bubbling away in the corner of the room. It's not all instrumental tracks, either, Alex Gopher's "The Child" and Fatboy Slim and Macy Gray's collaboration on "Demons" both pop up to add a little bit of late-night soul. The only problem is who gets up to put the second CD on... --Helen Marquis

From the Label

KEEP AN OPEN MIND
Many of the reviews below try to compare this album to what their authors conceive to be chillout, referring to the likes of cafe del mar and euphoria. In essence these releases stay true to the classical definition of "chillout" as a genre, without paying homage to a huge amount of high quality downtempo music which doesn't fit into their little boxes. This album puts all preconceptions to oneside and re-defines our understanding of chillout. Please listen with an open mind and I promise you will not be disappointed. This is a beautiful record.

Top Stuff!! 15 Nov 2001

This is really a top quality CD. It is well mixed and has tracks you could just lie back and die for. Outstanding tracks for me are 'No Ordinary Morning', '6 Underground' and 'Sexual'. The first CD is laid back and has been played many times at for background music at my house! Do yourself a favour and buy this CD and a set of quality headphones and lose yourself!!

Don't be intimidated by the reviews commenting that "this might not actually be chillout rather than...". Chillout is not just the Cafe del Mar complilations and this album is definitely not just a bunch of tunes that were selected primarily for the reason that they were previously unknown to the most of us, but a beatifully arranged 2CD set of mellow tracks that will easily put you in a relaxed state. This might not be the epitomy of chillout (try Groove Armada,Back To Mine and Bonobo,Animal Magic for that) but I only wish it's sequel was as good. So if you 're considering buying it, go ahead. Oh and push the skip button on "Demons". It ruins the whole effect :)

I really liked this CD. It is not too chilled out that you feel like faling asleep but rather it's nice and mellow and perfect for chilling. Also very good on a long journey in the car or as background music at a dinner party. I am a big fan of dance music, and the chill out mixes, and I feel that this CD is one that I would definitely put on my top 10 list! Super for relaxing on the beach also! Bring it with you on hols.

A nice album overall, though nothing 'amazing' really. Cd1 has a particularly mixed theme, with soothing songs such as Les Nuits, or the lovely No Ordinary Morning (wow). Read more

Simply too well played to ignore.
Anyone comparing this to other, more high octane dance compilations is missing the point. I bought this with the hope that it would at least match the excellent Euphorias 1 and 2... Read more

Chilled!
If you like dance music, but also something a bit mellow, this is the CD for you. Packaged onto two CD's, I found the first disc to hold the best tracks. Read more

A mix - match of chilled and ambient tunes, from ministry?
when you first listen to the first cd, you will be suprised to hear the french horn of alternative chillout master Badly Drawn Boy, very un-ministy-esq, but it works, and it works... Read more

Why CD2?
If you took CD1 only, I would give it 3 stars. The point is that really there is nothing revolutionary or different about this record. CD2 is commercial dance. Read more

The most relaxed albulm released this year
I've always been a fan of main stream dance music, but was sceptical about actually being able to 'chillout' to a dance compilation. Read more

Pretty good but not amazing
I would say that this album is good to listen to as background music and definately achieves its aim but does not contain many well known tunes. Read more

Mediocre Ministry

Its not what you expect but its still worth a listen
Ok so its not like the Euphoria compilations or Cafe del Mar, but its hard to imagine that anyone couldn't stick this on their CD player and relax. Read more
