Based on the World War II experiences of the author's father and uncle, Children of Freedom is a riveting testament to the bravery of the young resistance fighters in France. The missions that they undertake almost defy belief--but then again, so do many of the horrors of the Nazi era. The final section of the book is particularly horrific and gripping. But the overall tone is curiously distancing, so that the appeal is more to the intellect than to the emotions. Some of this may be due to the English translation, which is a bit clumsy in places. On the whole, though, the book is a worthy ode to the heroes it depicts.

Heart-moving Story 19 July 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is truely amazing. I didn't really know whether or not to buy it at first but i am so glad that i did. Part One goes rather slowly, but once you get to part two you'll sruggle to put this book down. The first person narative works so well to create a brilliant book and a main character that you will love.

Overall a good book, very harrowing at times, uplifting at others. I found it interesting to read about a group of resistance fighters who were fighting for France despite the fact that they weren't native French. I don't know how much was fact mixed with fiction, but it certainly was an eyeopener.
You may be put off reading it because there are a lot of books out there about world war II at the moment, but I would definitely recommend this book, especially for its different viewpoint. I think it's important that we keep these stories and memories alive, especially considering current world racial tensions.
