Review

'Definitely the Russian spy story to top them all.' Sunday Times. 'Takes us inside the Russian psyche - a strange and fascinating world of paranoia, fear, illusion and deep humanity. The best thing to come out of Russian since Gorky Park.' Mark Joseph --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Product Description

Deep in the heart of Russia, a group of casually dressed young men are learning a different kind of lesson. The undergraduates sprawled around a game board aren't chilling out on campus: the young KGB agents attending the Charm School are brushing up on their American. When a young tourist goes to the aid of a stranger on a dark Russian road, he is astonished to find a fellow American on the run. The man has been missing for over a decade, plucked from the jungles of Vietnam to become an unwilling tutor at the institution. Now his former students are poised to strike at the heart of America. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Fantastic 18 Nov 2002
Format:Paperback
Take a trip back to the USSR in the 1980's . The temperature was cold and there was a complete lack of trust between the super powers of Russia and USA . You are taken on a historical trip , learn of the culture , learn of repression and yet are still treated to a wonderful thriller.

It is a cliche to say that a book is a page turner but when I put this book down for any time at all I found myself questioning the motives of every character . It was almost like looking over my own shoulder and I could not wait to see what happened next.

A fantastic read, better than any Cold war spy novel I have ever read (and I read a lot)

Buy this book and give yourselve a treat

Fantastic Book 27 May 2004
By S. Shaw
Format:Paperback
It's not often I read a book that has me holding my breath with suspense until my chest hurts. In parts, I found this book had me doing just that. It's the first DeMille book I have read and was very very impressed.
I almost didn't read it because I thought a book about the cold war and russia wasn't really my kind of thing. Glad I made the effort to start it.
Buy it, read it, enjoy it. You won't be dissapointed.

Even though this novel was written during the cold war, it is still well worth a read circa 2002. It is a gripping tale about moscow life for american dimplomats in the late 80s, how they work against the system etc. The story basically starts when an american student bumps into an american military officer in the woods in deepest russia. I dont want to go on and spoil it for any potential readers so all I will say is that this is an excellent book, possibly demilles best.
