4.0 out of 5 stars Thekla is determined to teach Joey a lesson.... 18 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Thekla Von Stift is the most evil, dishonest, ill-tempered pupil the staff of the Chalet School has ever had the misfortune to teach. She has no respect for anybody and is determined to cause trouble wherever she goes, as long as someone else can take the blame. The head girl, Joey Bettany, has put a stop to one too many of her plans as far as Thekla is concerned and she is determined to teach that young lady a lesson. She decides to bully young Joyce Linton into helping her plot the downfall of the popular head girl, knowing full well that Joyce likes and admires Joey and if she is in trouble one more time she will surely be expelled. Matters come to a head when Thekla sneaks into Joyce Lintons dormitory one night, the results of which cause Mrs Linton, who is already dangerously ill in the nearby sanatorium, to lose consciousness completely and only prompt action from Joey Bettany can save her.... The term is also packed full with the latest exploits of the naughty middles and the end of term sale, and you can be sure of a happy ending.

Will Thekla be the first girl to be expelled? Will Mrs Linton die or can Joey save her?

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent Chalet School book 25 Jun 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The Chalet School series is wonderful reading for children and adults alike. Taking place in the historical setting of pre-WW2 Austria, this book is not only of value for its fast-paced adventures but also for the empowering feel of an all-girl school, where women and girls are the prime heroines. I especially liked this book because Joey, Cornelia and the rest are showing signs of growing up, and it's fun to watch them struggling to act mature when their obvious impulse is to play jokes and act silly. If you are going to read this book, make sure you have read the Chalet School and the Lintons, since originally these two books were published in one edition (as The Chalet School and the Lintons) and when they were broken into two books for paperback publication they were simply split into two parts right in the middle of the book, at the end of a chapter. So if you read Rebels without reading Lintons first you would find yourself very confused!
