Product Description

Product Description

The debut book by Stuart Murdoch, the founder member and singer of the popular indie band, Belle and Sebastian. Stuart writes evocatively of life on the road in an internationally touring band, contrasting it with his homespun and reflective returns back home to Glasgow.

About the Author

Stuart Murdoch has fronted Belle and Sebastian for nearly 15 years and established himself as a fiercely independent, creative figure on British cultural life. His group has had several Top 10 hits, won a Brit Award and played to 18,000 people at the Hollywood Bowl. Their music has been used in hit films such as Juno and High Fidelity.

If you are a fan of Belle and Sebastian, I can almost guarantee that you will adore this book. Not necessarily because I think it provides important insight into the life of the band, although this is true to a certain extent. It is rather because if you have fallen in love with the band, you are undoubtedly in awe of Stuart Murdoch's creative streak and his talent for modern poetry and finding beauty in the mundane.
This collection of writings (which I only subsequently found out had actually previously been a blog) made me smile or even giggle on every other page, warming my heart to the extent that at some points I might cry with the beauty of it all.
He also lets you in on his favourite bands and films and lyrics. I rarely devour books but read this in two days and am about to start again and this time I will be taking notes..

I was surprised when I first saw this book at its size that of an ordinary paper back I expected it to be like a graphics novel

Sebastian you're in a mess... 13 April 2011
By richie rich - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Stuart Murdoch is to the West End of Glasgow what St Etienne are to London.

Make sure you have your Glasgow A-Z and Google Maps handy so you can follow Stuart around the West End - Hyndland Parish Church, Byres Road, CaVa, B&S Offices in Argyle Street, Glasgow Buddhist Centre, Tchai-Ovna, Park Steps, Park Circus, Grassroots, Queen Margaret Union, the 7 a side football pitches etc. Hazard a guess at where the crows nest is and email complete strangers to find out where he is sitting on the front cover of the book. I've read it once. I've read it twice. I'm now on my third reading.
