This hilarious update of Charles Dickens’ story unfolds after Nan has turned out the Cratchits, her relatives from Yorkshire (with their dog, Tiny Tim), on Christmas Eve and stolen the over-60 club’s lottery money. The Ghost of Christmas Past reveals just how horrible Nan was as a child and as a young wife, while the risotto-cooking, Armani-clad, Ghost of Christmas Present (David Tennant) and The Ghost of Christmas Future show the curmudgeonly old killjoy some home truths.

This is the one-off Christmas special from Catherine Tate that aired on Christmas Day 2009. Nan's Christmas Carol is a re-telling of the classic Dickens story with Nan as a Scrooge-like character. Naturally this isn't a faithful version of the story!
I don't want to give away too much because I think the joy of this version is discovering how cleverly Catherine Tate has incorporated all of Nan's personality and home life. David Tennant, Roger Lloyd Pack and Ben Miller play the ghosts with Madness making a special appearance. The Cratchits are represented by Nan's Northern nephew Bob and his family. Cue lots of Northern stereotypes which as a northerner I find hilarious! I'm not a fan of David Tennanat but his appearance is brilliant. They clearly have a good on-screen prescence together.
When watching the Catherine Tate series I've always found her sketches to be a bit samey/over long. However this programme is 50 minutes long and doesn't flag at all. Highly recommended and would make a great Christmas present.

I have always loved Catherine Tate's 'Nan' however this Christmas special surpasses anything she has done - Hilarious and i laughed the whole way through!

All Hail Catherine Tate - she has done the near impossible with the addition of Nan's "A Christmas Carol" to the lexicon of holiday DVDs. This is one we will be playing every year from here on out in Santa Monica, CA. Thank Catherine! Very funny stuff indeed.

I love me some Nan
I just can not get enough of this woman. She is hilarious in every character she does. But Nan is like the little old lady who stopped thieves from robbing a jewelry store. Read more

A chore to sit through
I do love the Nan character, but sadly the only scene that provoked a real laugh in this special was the flashback to Nan as a child. The rest was all a bit of a chore.
