In Cornelius Armstrong, Martin Daley has created a detective
out of the the Sherlock Holmes mould. Set in 1903, the first of the
stories follows the detective's movements as he investigates the deaths of
two young Italians whose bodies have turned up within the space of a week.
The fact that they have been killed in the same manner suggests that their
deaths can be traced to the same killer. What is more, we learn that the
killer marks his letters with the five points of a star, the stars
referring to the five small towns in the Campania region of Southern
Italy, home to the violent Camorristi... Cornelius Armstrong's task is to
put an end to one of the most violent Italian gangs ever to terrorize the
streets of London... Fans of Conan Doyle will enjoy the way Martin Daley
fashions his narrative, and the way he recreates the atmosphere of those
