Product Description

Product Description

The Cartoonist's Workshop provides the aspiring cartoon artist with a carefully structured, how-to teaching programme. Beginning with basic techniques, such as facial proportions and how to alter them for effect, it goes on to show how to create believable human and animal figures, draw scenes and objects and define a sense of place. The workshop ends with the reader planning, designing and executing an entire comic. Throughout there are projects to complete, encouraging readers to experiment and develop their own style as their skills increase. the Book also includes useful advice on preparing a folio and marketing work professionally. The Cartoonist's Workshop concludes with a gallery of work by leading professionals from around the world, with invaluable insights into their working methods by the cartoonists themselves.

The Cartoonist Workshop is ideal for the beginner who wants to start drawing cartoons but does not really know where to start. It tells you what materials to use for the beginner, and gives step by step guides. Once you have read through each section it then suggests you go away and practice what you have been taught. The emphasis on this book is to get the beginner to pick a pen or pencil and start drawing anything rather than spending alot of money on expensive equipment before you attempt to become a cartoonist. There are practical tips on how to get your work published. The writer uses common sense and does not give the reader false expectations.

Anyone with young children will know the power that comics have over their imagination. My young nephew is no exception to this and he used to spend hours scribbling all over his comic books. So in an attempt to see if he was playing or really trying to draw I gave him a copy of this excellent book. Being young he has all the time in the world to draw and this book has been by his side since he received it. I am especially impressed with how the book is broken down into giving the novice simple, easy to complete steps. any young child from 5-10 should find this book has everything they need to get started as a comic artist. An excellent book.
