Product Description

A Cologne detective asks Jan Fabel for his help in tracking down the Carnival Cannibal, a terrifying serial killer who kills at the start of the world-famous annual Carnival. Unknown to anyone, Fabel's deputy, Maria Klee, also heads for Cologne to hunt down a different, even more dangerous killer - one with whom she has a score to settle.

Taras Buslenko, a Ukrainian special-forces commander, prepares his undercover unit for a "black" operation into Cologne. Their aim: to end the rule of an ex-pat Ukrainian crime-boss. Three paths converging on Cologne at Carnival at a time when the world is traditionally turned on its head. Fabel once more faces his greatest enemy: the true Master of the Carnival.

By Josephine Huys VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
I have just closed the paperback edition, coming out soon, and simply wish there would be a follow-up available to read immediately ! Craig Russell is so good with this 'Jan Fabel' serie that it is simply addictive reading. Each one seems even better than the last but really, all four books are excellent. I am just very puzzled that C. Russell is not better known from a wider readership and does not seem to reach the bestselling charts, I wonder if his publisher is doing sufficient marketing.
This latest chapter takes Herr Kommissar Fabel to Cologne, or Koln, and again Russell is very good at drawing the reader into the palpable atmosphere of this city as he did with Hamburg. The characters are very credible, alive with quirks and torments, and the policemen/women no less than the criminals ! The suspense is fabulous, and keeps you going, hooked until the very end.
I just hope that we won't have to wait too long till the next episode in the life of Jan Fabel !

The Carnival Master 14 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
Craig Russell is fast becoming a favourite writer. His work is fast-paced with twisting plots, realistic characters and a real sense of Germany. He is meticulous in his writing of the detective work needed to solve a crime and his detective Jan Fabel is likeable without losing credibility. After all the American detectives Fabel comes as a breath of fresh air in the crime genre.

Good but sometimes irritating
I liked the main carnival story, very unusal and with a lot of twits and turns.

But the side story of Maria searching for her Ukrainian nemisis was disturbing. Read more
